About

“Start this project, here are the first steps, ….”

I get this little voice inside me sometimes that starts talking and won’t shut up. At first I do my best to ignore the initial whispering but the volume starts to go up and I hear the voice on a bike ride or a walk or even in the middle of the night. It becomes incessant. That’s when my conscious brain starts a conversation with the subconscious by giving in and saying, “uh oh. Here we go again.” That’s what’s happened with this blog. I’ve been wanting to write about my life experiences for some time and my inner voice has started bellowing to sit down and write. Only problem is, I’m not a writer. My friend, a former English teacher, is giving me a crash course on how to do it.

I turned 60 this year and am still adventuring. I live in a small mountain town in SW Colorado, have been a ski instructor for 38 yrs, a rafter, a mountain biker, a community volunteer, a gardener and a Mom of two great kids. My latest passion is whitewater SUPing, and I’ve survived and am stronger from an injury or two in my life. I eat healthy foods, drink lots of water, gets lots of body work and still drink red wine and margaritas.

I have some things burning inside that want to come out into the open because I have learned a lot about following passion, juggling many balls, being creative in a small mountain town and working in a man’s world. When I was a kid I always thought that ‘old’ people were wise. Well, now that I’m ‘older’ I don’t feel as wise as I thought I’d be. Still feel like there’s a lot to learn about so many things.

The title of my blog comes from the idea that if you keep adventuring you stay young. At least you don’t feel so old (unless you look in the mirror of course.) And when I say adventure I mean “Challenge Yourself”. In anything. Do something new. Or learn a new way to do the same thing. Physically, mentally, emotionally. Writing is my new adventure and it will certainly be a challenge.

Here is a definition of Adventure from Dictionary.com:

  1. an exciting or very unusual experience.
  2. participation in exciting undertakings or enterprises: the spirit of adventure.
  3. a bold, usually risky undertaking; hazardous action of uncertain outcome.
  4. a commercial or financial speculation of any kind; venture.

I think that sums it up. Here we go!
